    Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin Historical Site contains items and documents commemorates the life of Reverend Josiah Henson. Henson worked as a slave for 41 years and escaped to Upper Canada in 1830 through the Underground Railroad. Over the next couple of years Henson contributed to the anti-slavery movement and eventually opened a refuge and a school for former slaves. A book about his life, Uncle Tom's Cabin, was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and outlines his life work.

    Essex Railway Station

    This railway station was constructed in 1887 and was restored and re-opened in 1994. The railway station now acts as a museum of sort, with exhibits, artifacts a unique gift shop and more.

    ErieQuest Marine Heritage Museum

    Off the shores of Leamington lie over 200 shipwrecks. To protect the resource's historical value local authorities created the ErieQuest Marine Heritage Area. The group is currently providing interpretive resources onshore and placing buoys above important wrecks for divers.

    John Freeman Walls Historical Site & Underground Railroad

    Willistead Manor

    Built in 1904-1906 in the Tudor-Jacobean style of English manor homes, the 36-room home designed by noted Detroit archirect Albert Kahn includes a Great Hall with an elaborate staircase, Drawing Room, Carrara marble fireplace and a Butler's Pantry with silver sinks.     Pelee Island Heritage Centre

    Hours: 10am-5pm daily, during off season please call to confirm times. The heritage centre offers an introduction to the Pelee Island's unique natural and human history. Exhibits feature rare flora and fauna, prehistoric artifacts, early navigation, the bountiful evidence of local shipwrecks and a new exhibit on the history of Middle Island.

    Gordon House 1798/Project H.M.S. Detroit

    Built in 1798 overlooking the Detroit river, the Gordon House is fully restored and is the headquarters for the Project H.M.S. Detroit, which has undertaken to build and maintain a full-size sailing replica of the ship. It houses a Marine exhibit.

    Rodney Jail
    Built in 1890, the tiny Rodney Jail is North America's oldest and smallest jail and still bears its original steel bar cell doors. Visitors can visit the jail, which is currently used as a visitor information center, from the May 24th weekend through Labour Day.

    John R. Park Homestead

    Petrolia Discovery is a 19th century public oil field with 19 producing wells. Visitors can watch firsthand as oil bubbles to the surface. Displays further explain the history of the area. Guided or self-guided tours are available. Open from May through November.
